Can Myoma and Cyst Surgeries Be Incisionless (vNOTES)?

What is a Myoma?

Myomas are benign tumors of the uterus, seen in one out of 4-5 women.

What is a Cyst?

They are changes originating from the ovaries, mostly benign — rarely malignant, with different characteristics.

Does Every Myoma-Cyst Require Surgery?

No.

Which Types of Myomas-Cysts Require Surgery?

For Myomas:

  • Persistent groin pain
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Inability to conceive
  • Suspicion of cancer

For Cysts:

  • Persistent groin pain
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation
  • Large, suspicious, persistent cysts
  • Dermoid cysts
  • Those with a risk of torsion, rupture
  • Some chocolate cysts
  • Suspicion of cancer

What are the Current (Classic) Surgical Methods?

Laparoscopy (closed) and Laparotomy (open) surgeries. Both are performed by making small-to-large incisions in the abdominal area.

What is Incisionless Surgery (vNOTES)?

vNOTES is a surgical technique performed without making any incisions on the abdominal skin or underlying layers.

So, How are Myomas and Cysts Accessed?

The organs inside the abdomen are accessed through a natural opening, the birth canal (vaginal route). The camera and surgical instruments used in laparoscopy are utilized.

Why vNOTES When Other Methods Exist?

  • Shorter surgery, anesthesia, and hospital stay
  • Less pain due to no incision, less need for painkillers, faster recovery and return to work
  • No scars to remind you of the surgical process
  • Better cosmetic results

Is There Pain During Sexual Intercourse After vNOTES?
